Longstanding St Michael’s chairman Liam McElhinney succeeded by Neil McGinley

The club held a reconvened AGM on Saturday evening where Neil McGinley was elected to take over from McElhinney who has also held one of Donegal’s Ulster Council delegate spots in the past. 

McElhinney and St Michael’s were, of course, to the fore back in October 2022, rallying around the community of Creeslough when ten people lost their lives following an explosion at a service station.

A post on the club’s social media channels paid tribute to McElhinney’s excellent contribution and also gave some insight to his successor. He will remain on as one of the club’s county board delegates. 

“Neil comes from a family which is steeped in the history of Dunfanaghy as his late father Brian was a founding member of the club and over the years served as treasurer and youth officer a position, he took over following the death of his brother John. 

“Brian served on the committee for many years and was president when he passed away a few years ago. 

“Neil’s late brother Patrick was also a former PRO of the Club. Neil had a spell as chairman a number of years ago and he has served as chairman of the minor board for the past few years - a position he will continue to hold”.
