The 2023 All-Ireland SFC will be restructured with the ‘Green Proposal’ sailing through the GAA’s Annual Congress with a backing of 94.7 percent.
The eight provincial finalists will compete for the Sam Maguire Cup along with the next eight teams ranked in order of league seniority.
Those counties will enter a round-robin stage comprising four groups of four, with the group winners progressing straight to the All-Ireland quarter-finals. The second and third-placed teams will vie for the remaining four quarter-final spots.
The next 16 counties based on league ranking will compete for the second-tier Tailteann Cup, which will also be played on a round-robin basis with four groups of four.
Last week, Donegal County Board chairman Mick McGrath said the county would back the Green Proposal, which will see 99 championship matches contested next year as opposed to the 60 in 2022.
