Letterkenny IT players dejected after their sides defeat in the Yoplait LGFA Moynihan Cup Final match
Letterkenny Institute of Technology's hopes of winning the Moynihan Cup final were dashed by Munster Technological University Cork on Friday.
LyIT 2-11
MTU Cork 3-10
Katie Herron's team were in a decent position at half-time, with a 1-6 to 1-3 lead thanks to a Lauren McBride goal and five points from Katie Long. Cliodhna Murphy was the first half MTU Cork goalscorer when she tucked a rebound past captain Aoife McColgan after Abby Quirke's shot had come back off the crossbar.
Murphy added a second goal after the break, with Eimear McCarthy also netting, although Dearbhile McCaffrey's goal did give LyIT some hope late in the day. Long would score seven points in all on the day.
LyIT: Aoife McColgan; Danielle McGinley, Aoife Deane, Lauren Martin; Julie Trearty, Karen McLaughlin, Shauna McFadden; Orla Connolly, Saskia Boyle; Aimee McIntyre, Emer O’Neill, Katie Long (0-7,5f); Ciara McGarvey (0-2), Lauren McBride (1-0), Nadine Friel.
Subs: Dearbhile McCaffrey (1-1), Emma Howe.
