East Donegal Tourism Forum to be restarted

Cllr Patrick McGowan (inset) has called for the east Donegal Tourism Forum to be started up again

The East Donegal Tourism Forum is to meet next month in a bid to plan for its future.

The news came at the recent online meeting of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District when cathaoirleach Cllr Patrick McGowan said he felt the area was losing out.

He said he also wanted to know if his proposals to have the East Donegal Tourism Forum restarted had made any progress.

"There are festivals and funding happening but a lot of the time we are not told about what is going on. If a councillor was going to a St Patrick's Day event in New York there would be major discussions and people wondering where they were but there seems to be a load of trips that we only get one line about afterwards. There should be reports coming back to show how these are benefitting our area," he said.

Mary McBride from the council's economic development, information systems and emergency services section said a meeting was being set up with the East Donegal Tourism Forum in April and they were going to look at what the course of action was going to be for future development in that area.

Cllr McGowan said all municipal district councillors should be kept up to date on this as the tourism initiative was a joint project.

This was agreed upon.
