Towns and villages all over Donegal are gearing up for this year's Darkness Into Light fundraising walk.

It will take place at 4.15am on the morning of Saturday, May 6 in over 200 venues throughout Ireland and across the world and at 13 locations here in Donegal: Carrick, Carrigart, Narin-Portnoo, Ballybofey-Stranorlar, Letterkenny, Rathmullan, Arranmore Island, Buncrana, Bundoran, Carndonagh, Donegal Town, Gweedore and Tory Island.

It is also Letterkenny’s 10-year anniversary of hosting such an event.

The main beneficiary of the walk, Pieta House is 80% funded by fundraising events. Without the Darkness Into Light supporters, Pieta couldn’t continue to provide vital services to people impacted by suicide and self-harm for free.

Speaking at the county launch in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny, local councillor Jimmy Kavanagh said he hoped to get the Polestar monument at the entrance to the town lit up in yellow colours to mark the event which takes place on May 6.

The organisers of the launch wish to thank all the Pieta House representatives that attended; the public who was able to join them to talk about the most important sunrise of the year; Without Willow for their beautiful music; the 2023 Ambassadors and the Letterkenny committee for hosting the launch.

"Without people like you, events like this wouldn’t be possible, so thank you for your time, and those who spoke. We have less than one month to go," added a spokesperson.

There are many ways you can take part in this year's event.

1. Register for your local 5km.

2. Take part your own way: walk, swim, bike, or simply enjoy the sunrise.

3. Challenge yourself: run a marathon, hike 10km or even do a skydive.

4. Create your own Fundraiser: from bake sales to race nights and everything in between.
