Donegal GAA SFC champions seek planning for upgraded facilities

Naomh Conaill CLGC celebrated SFC success

Donegal Senior Football Championship winners, Naomh Conaill CLGC, have applied for planning permission from Donegal County Council for the construction of a new floodlit astroturf pitch at Pairc Daithí Ó Braonáin.

Chairman of Naomh Conaill CLGC, Kieran Kennedy, has applied for the Glenties club to be able to commence the construction of a new astroturf pitch with associated fencing and floodlighting, an equipment shed as a lean-to on the new ball wall, and a kicking/ball rebound wall, and all associated siteworks.

A statement written by Kennedy read: “The Naomh Conaill CLGC have been providing community services in the wider Glenties area since its foundation in 1921 and are hoping through the development proposed in this application to modernise the role that it plays in the community.

“With that in mind, Naomh Conaill CLGC have put together an ambitious proposal that takes into account the growing community need to upgrade the existing facilities and offer a better level of service to the wider community.

“The introduction of an astroturf pitch as well as the ball wall would be welcome additions to the existing facility for use at time when weather conditions would prohibit action on the grass playing services.

“All of the proposed elements are driven by extensive consultation with the community and members of the club to see what is really needed to drive the club forward into the modern age.

“In short, Naomh Conaill CLGC feel that they are putting forward a sustainable proposal that will drag the club onto the same level as other GAA clubs in the region.

“The improved use and development of existing facilities will present a welcome addition for the community as a whole and the committee look forward to working with the Local Authority in ensuring that a high-quality community facility is the end result of the process.”

Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted application for April 7.
