N56 section off the Inver Bridge
Donegal County Council has said that the overlay from Inver Bridge to Ardaghey Junction is to be “prioritised for completion in the context of the county-wide Pavement Asset Repair and Renewal Programme (PARR)” following a motion put forward at February’s Donegal Municipal District Meeting.
Cllr Noel Jordan put forward a motion that called on “Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to include the overlay from Inver Bridge to the Ardaghey Junction on their Capital Pavement Programme, and include safety measures at the Keelogs School Junction.”
An official response from the legislative body of Donegal County Council, signed off by Mark Sweeney, the Area Manager for Roads and Transportation, stated: “The section of the N56 in question has already been identified by the DNRO and recommended for inclusion by TII on Donegal’s three-year rolling PARR programme.
“TII’s annual funding for PARR is variable and has been significantly reduced in recent years; therefore, while the DNRO continue to complete annual projects from TII’s PARR programme, implementation is significantly delayed due to recent funding reductions.
“The section of the N56 in question will therefore remain on the three-year rolling PARR programme, and will be prioritised for completion in the context of the county-wide PARR programme and annual TII funding allocations.”

Regarding Cllr Jordan’s question to include safety measures at the Keelogs School Junction, the official answer stated: “In response to the request for safety measures at Keelogs School Junction, the Area Roads Office will arrange for a road safety assessment to be carried out at this junction and will then forward this assessment to the Road Safety Engineer to review and consider.”
Cllr Jordan welcomed the news of a road safety assessment at Keelogs School Junction.
He said: “Now we have got the opportunity, hopefully we will see that done next year in 2027.
“When doing that, we need to carry out what safety measures we can put in place.”
Cllr Niamh Kennedy spoke in support of the motion. She said: “I think this is very important and it should be done.”
