Bishop Philip Boyce
The Bishop of Raphoe Philip Boyce has paid tribute to the former Bishop of Derry Edward Daly who passed away this morning.
Bishop Boyce said it was “with deep sadness” that he heard the news.
Although Bishop Daly had retired, due to ill health, before Bishop Boyce took up his post in Raphoe, the two met on many occasions over the years.
Bishop Boyce recalled “a very kind and thoughtful person”.
His tribute to Bishop Daly continued, “His attention (at times heroic) for victims of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, for prisoners and their families, and for all who suffered in any way was remarkable.
“He was a revered pastor and speaker, whose words touched and sustained many people.”
“Even in his years of retirement, he gave generous service to the Diocese, in the Archives and as Chaplain to the Foyle Hospice in Derry.
“May he now rest in the peace of his Lord and Master.”
