County music star Michael English will play a concert in Burt chapel next February
Irish country music star Michael English is set to perform a special concert at St Aengus’ Church in Burt early next year.
The popular singer will take to the stage at the Burt landmark on Sunday 22 February with all proceeds from the concert going towards the installation of a new heating system at the church. The performance is scheduled to begin at 8pm.
Burt chapel is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s most distinctive modern places of worship. Often described as 'an architectural gem', it was named Irish Building of the 20th Century in 2000 following a public vote organised by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.
The church was designed by renowned architect Liam McCormick, who embraced the freedoms afforded by the reforms of Vatican II in his many church commissions.
Construction was completed in 1967, and the striking design was immediately embraced by the local community. Since then, the chapel has gained international recognition as an architectural masterpiece and continues to attract visitors and tourists throughout the year.

Michael English will not be the first major name in Irish music to perform in the Burt chapel. In 2009, Daniel O'Donnell famously played to a packed church, performing in front of more than 600 fans seated in the pews.
The concert comes as St Aengus’ continues to benefit from ongoing investment in its future. The church underwent significant renovations between 2014 and 2017, including roof repairs, major structural works and electrical rewiring. The installation of a modern heating system is seen as the next key step in ensuring the comfort of worshippers.
The church is also approaching another milestone, with its diamond jubilee celebrations planned for 2027, marking 60 years since its completion.
Tickets for the Michael English concert are priced at €30 and are available from the parish offices in Fahan and Buncrana. Tickets can also be secured by contacting Sinéad on 086 1673669 or Siobhán on +44 759 927 8823.
