The highest gust in the country at 62 miles per hour was recorded at Malin Head last month.
Malin Head was the stormiest place in Ireland last month, according to the latest official data just released by Met Eireann.
Ireland’s most northerly weather station reported the highest gust in the country on Thursday, February 5th, at 54 knots [62mph], while also recording the most stormy days by far.
The number of days with gales ranged from zero days at almost all Irish weather stations to seven days at Malin Head, with the Inishowen station being the only one to record strong gales, on two separate days [Thursday 5th and Friday 6th]
Malin Head also recorded gusts greater than 34 knots during 18 days of February, once again the highest number nationally.
In terms of rainfall, Inishowen was marginally drier than normal last month, with a total rainfall of 88.8 millimetres, which was slightly below the long-term average of 95.2mms.
The wettest day of the 28-day period was Monday, February 9, when 12.3mms of rain fell at Malin Head, while there were only three days with no rain whatsoever.

Temperatures ranged from a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday, February 14 [a chilly start to Valentine’s Day!] to a balmy 12.1 degrees ten days later by Tuesday, February 24.
Overall, there was only one day of air frost in Inishowen last month, while the average temperature of 6.6 degrees was significantly warmer than the 6.1-degree average for February, in further evidence of global warming.
