A long-running community campaign for improved road safety has achieved success this week, as new warning signs were installed on the Rahan to Corravaddy road leading to Drumkeen

The development follows sustained efforts by local residents, daily commuters, and members of the Aontú team, who petitioned for action over safety concerns on the busy route.

Mary T Sweeney, local Aontú rep, spearheaded the campaign for signage and organised public meetings to bring the community and commuters together out onto the streets to voice their concerns about safety issues on this road.

“This is just the beginning,” Ms Sweeney said. “With the growing number of commuters using this route, there are a number of areas along this road which would benefit greatly from road widening, to make it even safer.”

“On behalf of the community here, I would like to thank our Council engineers and officials for listening to the concerns of the road users. Once again, it proves that where a community works together, your voice can be heard.

“It is a tremendous feeling to see the new road safety signs going up at last on the Rahan/Corravaddy road to Drumkeen. A huge thank you to all the residents and commuters who petitioned and campaigned with me and the Aontú team, and to the council staff for hearing our concerns and elevating them. Now let’s get back onto the traffic in Letterkenny!”
