The pedestrian crossing approaching Oatfield roundabout in Letterkenny
A pedestrian crossing at a Letterkenny roundabout will be relocated due to safety concerns.
The crossing at Oatfield roundabout will be moved further up the hill towards Letterkenny Fire Station.
The move comes in response to a motion from Independent Cllr Michael McBride at the February meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District. He asked for the crossing to be moved from its current location “in the interest of public safety”.
Cllr McBride said that the crossing is currently located behind a wall and cannot be seen by drivers approaching from the Tesco roundabout.
“You can’t really see what’s happening and by the time you get a look around, you’re absolutely on top of them [pedestrians],” said Cllr McBride. “The crossing is wide and people get stuck in the middle”.

He said that moving the crossing would be “helpful in the short term” and added that “no huge investment” would be needed to change the lines on the road.
100% Redress Cllr Tomás Seán Devine seconded the motion, also alluding to another “dangerous junction” near the Oldtown Bridge.
The motion was passed by the council.
