Simple Simon’s in Donegal Town hosted an event with local author Karina Molloy to mark International Women’s Day.
Karina is a regular customer of the shop and restaurant, and was described by Kelly in Simple Simon’s as ‘a perfect fit for what we were aiming for.’
The friendly and informal gathering of local women saw Karina answering questions and sparking conversations stemming from her debut book, A Woman in Defence.
The former soldier had a successful, 31-year career in the army, breaking new ground for women in the defence forces. Unfortunately she also encountered a culture of sexual harassment and assault, as well as bullying.
Her courage and honesty in highlighting what her book describes as ‘the enemy within the Irish army’ has struck a chord with many women who have experienced similar issues in other walks of life.
The warmth, friendliness and supportive atmosphere of Wednesday morning’s gathering in Simple Simon’s was a reminder of why International Women’s Day is still important and relevant in society today.
