The 100% Redress Party says it is hopeful of taking “several” seats in next year’s local elections.

The newly formed party, which is made up of campaigners for homeowners affected by defective blocks, has been holding a series of information meetings around Donegal in recent months as part of the process of selecting candidates for the local elections, which will be held in June.

The party, which was approved by the Electoral Commission in October,  was holding the last in the series of meetings in Milford on Tuesday night following events in Carndonagh, Buncrana, Ballybofey and Letterkenny. It is hoped candidates will be selected in the new year with a deadline for expressions of interest set for Christmas.

The party’s press relations officer, Ali Farren, said selection processes will be held in the new year in any areas where the party has been oversubscribed with interested candidates.

“We have got to have a strategy, which we think we have. We have got to have a plan, which we think we have,” he said.

“We have some candidates - we would like a few more in certain areas. That's what the call-out is for - for people to come on board and make a difference and to be a voice and to help our community.”

Mr Farren, a community worker in Malin Head, said that he believes candidates “running under the 100% redress banner” will get a good response from voters.

“I am very, very positive about the reaction I am getting when I am speaking to people on the street. I have no doubt we will elect several 100% redress candidates because people are tired of the large parties that have not delivered.

“I do believe we will get a vote and we will get a very strong vote. It is about getting the right candidates in each area.

“I think come June next year we will be sending a strong message to Dublin that up here we are certainly going to be different.”
