Referendum Results: Donegal records a massive 84% No in the Carer Referendum

Changes proposed in the Care Referendum have been rejected in Donegal, with a huge No vote of 84%.

The following results were announced by Returning Officer, County Registrar Geraldine O'Connor shortly at 8.17 pm at the count centre in the Aura Centre, Letterkenny:

Care Referendum

Yes 7,834

No 41,030

The total turnout for the Donegal constituency was 49,366 from an electorate of 123,452, representing 39.6%  of those eligible to vote. 

There was a marked absence of local representatives throughout the day, with Aontu being the only political party with a presence at the count.

As with the announcement of the Family Referendum results two hours earlier where a No vote of 80% was returned, there were no public representatives or anyone from the Yes campaign present. 

Aontu was the only political party present, with Mary T Sweeney welcoming the No vote from the people of Donegal.
