The agricultural waste dumped near Lough Derg despite the detailed instructions signposted
A substantial amount of agricultural waste has been found dumped near Lough Derg.
Donegal County Council is investigating the dumping as the waste contained sheep drench containers which, while empty on this occasion, could be very harmful if even a small drop made its way into a watercourse.
It was also dumped directly in front of a clear ‘no dumping’ notice.
“According to the EPA Good Practice Guide for the disposal of pesticide containers, empty containers should be triple-rinsed, punctured and placed in Farm Plastic recycling bags available from your local co-op or agri-merchant,” The Donegal County Council said.
“These filled bags should then be brought to your local authorised bring centre. The location and dates of the bring centres are available on the Farm Plastics Recycling website.”
