Gardaí have appealed to all road users to drive responsibly ahead of the June Bank Holiday Weekend.
Gardaí will be out on the roads over the weekend conducting high visibility checkpoints and speed checks. Bank Holidays bring a higher volume of traffic onto the roads and with this comes an increased risk of collisions.
“Drivers are urged to slow down, wear their seatbelt, and not to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs,” Sergeant Eunan Walsh said. “Do not use/hold your mobile phone while driving and never take unnecessary risks while behind the wheel.
“Remember if you have been drinking you may not be safe to drive the morning after. Don’t risk it. Always be on the lookout for cyclists and pedestrians and drive at a safe speed.
“We hope that everybody has a safe and enjoyable Bank Holiday Weekend.”
