The parochial house at Drimarone

The old parochial house in Drimarone is set to be demolished.

The two-storey property, built over a century ago, is said to be “in a state of collapse”.

Parish priest Fr James Sweeney has applied to Donegal County Council for permission to fell the building, as well as sheds.

The house, at Drimarone, Letterbarrow, has not been occupied for around 15 years and is described by an architect, in a document submitted in support of the application, to be in “an extremely poor state”.

Many areas of the building are rendered dangerous in that they are in a state of collapse.

“It is now a very dangerous structure internally,” the letter said, adding that refurbishing the building would be “prohibitive”.

Building a new house would be “much more economic”, the architect said.

The local authority says that a decision on the supplication will be made by the end of February, 2025.
