Gardaí nab speeding motorists

Driving in sunny weather can be dangerous too

Gardaí nab speeding motorists

One of those detected was clocked at 156 km/h

Letterkenny-based Garda Roads Policing Unit conducted a speed check yesterday (Saturday) and a number of vehicles were detected travelling in excess of the speed limit.
Two such detections are pictured.

They warn that with the sunny clear days and icy roads forecast for today this combination can result in 'sun glare'.

Another motorist who was caught was travelling at 130km/h

"Drivers can be temporarily dazzled or blinded by the intensity and brightness of a low sun on the horizon. In such conditions drivers are reminded to:
Minimize the risk by wearing sunglasses; ensure that your windscreen is clear of grease or grime inside and out.

"Add windshield washer fluid to the water in the reservoir and check that the wipers are not worn away or damaged. Replace them if they are.

"Slowing down on the approach to junctions, corners, and bends is critical.

"Each time you travel, decrease your speed in order to decrease your risk of being seriously injured or killed on the roads," a spokesperson said.
