An Irish journalist and camera man with Fox News, Pierre Zakrzewski, has been killed in Ukraine.
Donegal journalists have already expressed their deep sadness and horror with the death of a fellow journalist, in the course of his duties as well as his Ukrainian journalist colleague.
Pierre was killed just outside Kyiv after the vehicle in which he was travelling at Horenka, was struck yesterday.
Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshynova was also killed.
A colleague Benjamin Hall was wounded.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, Simon Coveney has confirmed:
"I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of Pierre Zakrzewski, an Irish citizen and journalist who was killed while on duty covering the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Officials from my Department are in touch with his family and are providing consular assistance.
"The killing of all citizens through this reckless war is deplorable, and I also wish to strongly condemn the targeting of journalists who have been working bravely to shine a light on the plight of Ukraine since the outbreak of hostilities.
"Ireland once again calls on Russia to bring an end to this war and we stand ready to support any initiative which can deliver peace. We will continue to demand accountability for violations of international humanitarian and human rights law."
