Gerard Byrne from Donegal Town was among the dancers to meet President Joe Biden
This St Patrick’s Day will certainly be one to remember for a young man from Donegal Town who met President Joe Biden during the Washington DC celebrations.
Triple World Champion Irish dancer Gerard Byrne was part of the Riverdance troupe that performed on the day.
Mr Byrne said: “It was a great honour performing at the Speakers Lunch in the United States Capitol Hill on St Patrick’s Day and getting to meet the president of the United States, Mr Joe Biden. A moment I will remember for the rest of my life!
“Thank you Riverdance for this amazing opportunity.”
To the amusement of his guests, President Biden introduced himself as he greeted the dancers.
“Riverdance! You guys are incredible,” he said.
“My name’s Joe Biden, how are you all doing?”
It was a wonderful, memorable occasion for Mr Bryne and his fellow Riverdancers, and also for his family and friends back home and in the US.
