Fraud continues to increase and affects all society from those seeking rental accommodation to large-scale investment and Businesses Email Compromise fraud
Gardai will commence a Fraud Awareness Week from Monday next, to inform members of the public about the many pitfalls and scams that criminals are trying to steal their hard earned money.
Each day will be dedicated to a certain area of fraud from accommodation fraud to bribery and corruption.
They say that fraud continues to be on the increase and affects all of society from individuals seeking rental accommodation to large-scale investment and Businesses Email Compromise fraud.
Fraudulent text messages and emails are unfortunately an everyday occurrence. Rarely does a Donegal phone user net see some sort of inviting text, or being told than an account has been compromised and that immediate action is required.
Of course, such text and emails are to ignored.
Over the course of next week commencing Monday March 28, Gardai will provide daily press releases and media briefings on the specific fraud types.
Chief Superintendent Pat Lordan of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) will outline the schedule for a week of media briefings tackling various types of fraud, followed by a briefing on Business Email Compromise, warning companies about fraudulent email payment requests.

Monday, March 28, Business Email Compromise
Tuesday, March 29, Anti - bribery and Corruption
Wednesday, March 30, - Investment Fraud
Thursday, March 31 - Accommodation Fraud
Friday, April 1, 22 Smishing / Vishing / Account Takeover
