Planning permission has been sought for a major new development at Deele College in Raphoe.

Documents have been lodged with Donegal County Council.

The proposed development would see the temporary relocation of four existing prefabs to the all-weather football pitch at the rear of the school.

The new development includes the erection of a new stand-alone two-storey modular building that will contain eight classrooms.

A set room, toilets and ancillary spaces will also be provided for in the building, which will be located where the prefabs are at the moment.

The hard-standing parking area to the rear of the sports hall is to be upgraded and will replace the parking spaces that will be lost through the construction of the new building.

The planning permission application was submitted by Ms Ann McHugh on behalf of the Donegal ETB.

In April, the project received approval and the local authority says that a decision on the submission will be made by January 12, 2023.

Student numbers have swelled in recent years with around 650 enrolled.

The school first opened as Raphoe Vocational School in 1965 and the current school principal is Joe Boyle.
