Former Donegal manager Mickey Moran travelled to the county this weekend to present a book of condolence for the ten victims of the Creeslough explosion.

The book of condolence was from the Kilcoo GAA club in County Down.

Moran visited Liam McElhinney, the chairperson of the St Michael's GAA Club to hand over the book.

On October 7, ten people lost their lives in an explosion at the Applegreen service station in Creeslough in a tragedy that gripped all corners of the globe.

Leona Harper, Robert Garwe and his daughter Shauna Flanagan Garwe, Jessica Gallagher, James O'Flaherty, Martina Martin, Hugh Kelly, Catherine O'Donnell with her son James Monaghan and Martin McGill all died in the explosion.

Books of condolence were opened in communities and clubs across Ireland.

Moran would've known the area well. St Michael's clubmen Colm McFadden, Christy Toye and Brian McLaughlin all played for Moran during his time as the Donegal manager.

Moran took over from Declan Bonner in 2000 and guided the county to an All-Ireland quarter-final in 2002.

Last year, he led Kilcoo to All-Ireland senior club glory. Although he stepped aside as manager, his successor, Conleith Gilligan, told how Moran remains a sounding board for the club, who face Glen in the Ulster final this weekend.

“I’ll always ring him in the car on the way home to see what he thought - he’ll give it to you whether you want it or not,”Gilligan said.
