Rocketing accommodation prices see more students wanting to drive to College

Additional Driving Inspector needed and weekend testing  on Saturday and Sunday to deal with ''eight month' backlogs called for, by Councillor Michael Naughton

Driving test wait in Louth 'unacceptable'

Driving test wait in Donegal is more than eight months says Councillor Michael Naughton

Cllr Michael Naughton (FF) has asked that the ongoing situation with driving test delays in Donegal be addressed as a matter of urgency.

Speaking at the October meeting of the Donegal Municipal District (MD) he said that he had little doubt that the same issues have been put to other councillors as well, by families and individuals desperate to get full driving licences.

He said: “The driving test wait list is now over eight months. Donegal is a Northern County. We don’t have the same access to trains, as they have in other parts of the country.

“Also now with the likes of the price of accommodation in Sligo, Derry and Letterkenny that many families now feel that it best that the kids drive to college.

“We are getting this on a daily basis and I suggest that we write to the Minister and request another Inspector (for Donegal) as well as carrying out tests on Saturday and Sunday to move up this backlog.

Cllr Michael Naughton, Fianna Fáil

“This is a huge issue for young people trying to get to college and trying to get access to accommodation.

“ And with families looking at it as being easier to travel home than it is to get accommodation in Sligo or Letterkenny.

“I have been inundated with this issue day on day and if we could do something on that, it would be appreciated.”
