NATIONAL: 'I want to know she's safe' - Mother of Irish teen who vanished from Disneyland speaks

Disneyland Paris in France

The mother of a teenager girl from Cavan who went missing from Disneyland Paris last month has spoken out and said, "I just want to know that she is safe."

17-year-old Amber Victoria Palm, who was living with her family in Cavan, vanished during a family trip to the French attraction in August and was last seen on CCTV at a petrol station nearby.

Her mother Mactalene, originally from South Africa, told Andrea Gilligan's Lunchtime Live show on Newstalk that she has no idea what happened her daughter and that her appeals go on.

The worried mum says she's been told by French police that her daughter could be "anywhere in the Schengen area" by now.

The teenager left Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe in Coupvray in the middle of the night on August 7 and CCTV subsequently showed her meeting a male at a petrol station and getting into a car with him.

She was in contact with friends online for three days after that but no one has heard from her in the month since then. Mactalene has since found out her daughter was talking with a man online for a while before the trip and police know he entered France by ferry on August 6.

Her mother told Newstalk she is at a loss to know where she went with the man and is desperate to hear from her.

“I've got no idea. I just want to know that she is safe. Or even give me a call or anything," she said.

“They [French police] were saying she's a runaway, but you know what? She is still a minor,” Mactalene added.

“I mean, in today's life, anything can happen. You know, for me, it feels like, you know, she was groomed but I don't know; I can't say that.

French police have tried but so far failed to track the car and Mactalene says, "they can't just disappear."

She said gardaí have been more helpful but that they've done all they can with the case.

“If she phones or if the cops phone and tell us, you know, where exactly she is, I’ll fly over and fetch my baby.

“I wish there was more that I could do,” she continued.

She said she is "trying to keep it together" but finds it difficult to look at Amber Victoria's young brother's face everyday as he is missing his sister.

The family are appealing to the public for any information on her whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to reach out to Gardai or local police wherever they are.
