Bus Éireann has removed the €10 fee to bring prams, bicycles and baby strollers on board bus routes in cities and towns, as well as many of their local and commuter routes.
The fee will remain in place on Expressway services, but has been scrapped this week across all commuter, rural and local service routes. Bus Éireann operates local and commuter services across all 26 counties.
Up until the charge was scrapped this week, the fee (charged each way on a journey) meant that the cost of bringing a bicycle or baby stroller on a bus trip was often more expensive than the ticket itself.
While the €10 transit fee has been removed, Bus Éireann stipulated that the carriage of bicycles, prams and extra bags on their buses is subject to available room.
The change comes after pressure from Labour leader and TD Ivana Bacik, who engaged with Bus Éireann chief executive Stephen Kent on the matter.
