Uptown cafe to hold coffee morning for Baby Rioghnach-Ann

Organisers hoping for big turnout

Uptown cafe to hold coffee morning for Baby Rioghnach-Ann

Uptown Cafe in Letterkenny will hold a family/fun day this Saturday. All proceeds from the event will go to an education fund for Rioghnach-Ann Daniels, the baby girl who was rescued off Buncrana Pier in March by Kerrykel man, Davitt Walsh.

The tragedy claimed the lives of Rioghnach-Ann’s father Sean McGrotty (49) her brothers Mark (12) and Evan (8), her grandmother Ruth Daniels (57) and her aunt Jodie-Lee (14).

From 12 noon on Saturday, children can have fun on the bouncy castle, while they will also have the opportunity have their faces painted.

The music on the forecourt will be provided by local artists DJ Tubbs, Maria McCormick, Eddie Gallagher, Anne Biddy, Paul McCahill, Martin Orr, John Dolan and David Craig.

The organisers are hoping for a large crowd. Last month, the “Copper Hopper” campaign was launched at Uptown by Davitt Walsh and Aidan Cannon from Uptown Cafe..

"Aidan is life-long friend and wanted to do something to help,” Davitt said at the launch.

“I know himself and his wife, Sharon, like so many people, had been been deeply affected by the tragedy. After a bit of discussion we decided on establishing an education fund for Rioghnach-Ann,” Davitt added.
