Tributes pour in for Noel Madden, late of Bundoran’s Bridge Bar

The death of Noel Madden has been met with much sadness in Bundoran, Kinlough and among the many patrons of Madden’s Bridge Bar, Bundoran. 

Noel passed away peacefully at his home in Kinlough on Saturday, August 3 surrounded by his beloved family. 

There has been a huge outpouring of sympathy for the family as people took to the Madden’s Bridge Bar Facebook page to express their condolences.

From local friends and neighbours to people from all over the world who had fond memories of Noel from their visits to Bundoran, hundreds of people used the social media platform to express their condolences and to recall Noel as a gentleman and friend who will be greatly missed.  

His family responded with a post saying: “The Madden family is grateful for the overwhelming support and sympathy they have received.”

Bundoran’s Cllr Michael McMahon is among those to pay tribute to Noel. 

He told Donegal Live: “It is very sad news. On behalf of myself and the community of Bundoran, I would like to express my condolences. He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary and family and friends throughout the length and breadth of Bundoran and further afield. 

“Noel certainly made the Bridge Bar very popular with locals and tourists alike. 

“It is a world renowned restaurant and bar.

“Noel will be remembered for all the initiatives that he and his family took to make the bar and restaurant what it is today. 

“He was a very enjoyable man in many ways but wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, and he could hold his own in any conversation.”

Noel, late of 6 Melvin Fields, Kinlough, Leitrim and formerly Ballycastle, Mayo and Bundoran, Donegal, was laid to rest in St Aidan’s Cemetery, Kinlough on Monday afternoon, August 5, following 1pm Mass in St Aidan’s Church. 

He is survived by his wife Mary, née McGloin, his children and their partners Colette (Willie), Declan (Gillian), Josephine (Brendan), Nicholas (Joanne) and Teresa (Cormac), his beloved grandchildren Íarom, Oisín, Íde, Noel, Joe, Indie, Oscar and John, his brothers PJ and Sean and sister Mary, and his nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends.
