Deep regret was occasioned by the recent passing of Mrs Rosaleen Griffith (nee Breslin), Birmingham, England and also of Lower Crickamore, Burtonport.

Rosaleen had reached the great age of 101 years and was predeceased by her beloved husband Dick in January 2025.

She was born in 1924 and was the last surviving and youngest member of the Breslin family and daughter of Patrick and Mary Breslin. Sadly, Rosaleen lost her Mum when she was only eight years of age. At the age of 21, Rosaleen made the brave decision to travel to Birmingham to train as a nurse at Sally Oak Hospital. She loved her life as a nurse and made many lifelong friends.

While in Sally Oak Hospital, she met her beloved husband Dick, and they were wed in 1965. Rosaleen and Dick would come home to Crickamore on an annual basis, and after retiring, they spent more time in west Donegal.

They loved working in their garden. Rosaleen was always into health and wellbeing, visiting health food shops, stocking up on the latest vitamins. She was very devoted to her religion and in particular, Padre Pio. She loved dressing up, anytime she was invited to parties and going out.

She was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother and aunt and will always be fondly remembered. She was so proud to be able to celebrate her 101st birthday in Crickamore. Her two daughters, Ingrid and Berona, deserve great credit for this. It was a great pleasure for people of this area to have known Rosaleen and we now know she is reunited with Dick in heaven and her brothers and sisters.

Her funeral took place in St Columba’s Church, Acres, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Pat Ward, PP, who also officiated at the graveside. At the end of the mass, Rosaleen’s daughter paid a lovely tribute to her mother. Rosaleen is survived by her daughters Ingrid and Berona, grandsons Noah and Oisin, nephews, nieces and a large family circle to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
