Ashleigh McArdle and Emily Kelly among the medals in Athlone

There was silver for McArdle and bronze for Kelly at the National Indoor Combined Events Championships on Saturday.

Ashleigh McArdle of Lifford-Strabane AC and Tir Chonaill AC's Emily Kelly won medals at Saturday's National Indoor Combined Events Championships.

McArdle took silver in the youth women pentathlon while Kelly collected bronze in the under-16 pentathlon at the TUS International arena in Athlone.

McArdle was second with 3,353 points, beaten to the gold by Dundalk's Tara O'Connor (3,435).

McArdle won her 60m hurdles in 9.08 seconds and also won the shot put event, reaching out to a best of 11.33m.

McArdle was second in the long jump (1.61m), fourth in the long jump (5m) and fifth in the 800m (2:43.18).

In the girls under-16 pentathlon, Kelly took the bronze medal, finishing on 3,008 points.

Kelly took top marks in the 800m and, clocking 10.08 seconds, the St Columba's College, Stranorlar student was second in the 60m hurdles.

Kelly was second in the high jump, soaring over the bar at 1.53m.

Kelly was fifth in both the long jump, leaping a best of 4.60m, and shot put, throwing to 7.15m.

Also in the under-16 pentathlon, Erin Sproule was 11th. The Finn Valley woman won her 800m in 2:31.17.

Finn Valley AC's Mark Wilkinson was tenth in the boys under-15 boys pentathlon, amassing 1,748 points.

Wilkinson was third in the high jump, clearing 1.56m.

In the girls under-15 pentathlon, Rosses AC pair Eva Logue and Aoife McGonagle were 13th and 15th when the overall sums were totted. McGonagle finished third in the 800m in 2:50.90 while a 7.45m throw saw Logue fifth in the long jump.
