Lauren Callaghan set a new Championship best to win the long jump gold at the Irish Universities Athletics Championships on Saturday.
Killygordon woman Callaghan, representing DCU, put her heels to the sand at 6.19m at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbottstown.
It is the second best ever attempt by the Finn Valley AC athlete.
Her 6.19 chalks off the previous record of 6.12m, set by another DCU athlete, Sarah McCarthy, in 2015.
Callaghan's latest medal-winning performance continues her excellent start to 2023.
On January 14, Callaghan set a new Donegal long jump record when jumping 6.24m to win gold at the UUJ Jumps and Throws meet.
That leap by the Killygordon woman bettered Mary McLoone’s 6.07m, set in 2007 at the National Championship.
Callaghan, who has been in the sport since her days at Dromore NS, is coached by Paul Wilkinson at Finn Valley.
Tir Chonaill AC athlete Siobhan Doherty, also a student at DCU, won gold in the 1500m walk.
The Kilcar woman held off the challenge of college-mate Eva Delahunt from Sligo to win.
A couple of weeks ago, Doherty won the National Under-23 3000m race walk, also beating Delahunt into second on that occasion.
