Ballyshannon Marlins Swim Club make a splash at Ulster Long Course Championships

Ballyshannon Marlins Swim Club took home five medals from the Ulster Long Course Championships, with all seven of their team members obtaining personal bests.

The championships were held over three days at the Aurora Aquatic and Leisure complex, Bangor, with Eunan Colgan, Erin Coyle, Aengus Flanagan, Isabella O’Reilly, Darragh Summerville, Nessa Warren and Alan Vaughan all travelling with coach Kieran Summerville.

Sixteen-year-old Darragh Summerville won the Ulster Senior Champion in the 200m Backstroke crown, his first provincial title, while there was silver for Eunan Colgan in the Boys 12-year-olds 200m backstroke.

The club also picked up three bronze medals, with Aengus Flanagan taking two of those - in the Senior 200m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly - and Alan Vaughan in the Boys 15-16 year-old’s 50m Backstroke.

As well as all seven swimmers getting PBs, six of the party achieved top 10 finishes in their events as the club continues to go from strength to strength following on from the success of Mona McSharry - the 2020 Olympic 100m breaststroke finalist who won national titles with the club at the national championships.
