A day after being selected for the World Athletics Championships for a sixth time, Brendan Boyce was in action on Saturday in Spain.

A regular competitor over longer distance, Boyce tackled the 20km at the XXXVI Gran Premio Cantones de A Coruna de Marcha, a World Athletics Race Walking tour, gold level meet, held in La Coruña.

The Finn Valley AC athlete finished in 1:27:14 for a 47th overall placing.

His personal best over 20km is the 1:24:31 he set in Podebrady in 2019.

The Milford man will go in the 35k race walk in Budapest in August, Athletics Ireland announced.
Boyce was 25th over the 35k distance at the last edition in Eugene, Oregon last summer.
Previously, Boyce competed over 50k before the distance was abolished.
In Doha in 2019, Boyce finished sixth in 4:07:46.
