Donegal Novice boxing champions are crowned

Seven finals were held in recent days with a raft of walkover wins being confirmed for the County Donegal Boxing Board's Novice Championships

The Donegal Novice Championships were held in Carndonagh at the weekend.

Seven finals were held in the ring with a further final taking place in Letterkenny on Tuesday night.

Raphoe Boxing Club’s Jack McElroy defeated Letterkenny’s Darcy Atkinson on his home canvas in the Boy 6 final at 63kgs. McElroy was given a unanimous decision.

In Carndonagh, Roco McDaid was a popular home winner in an all-Inishowen Boy 3 59kgs final against Illies Golden Gloves’ Jake Curran.

Reece McDaid of Carndonagh also took victory, overcoming Carrigart’s Tommy Coll in the Boy 5 final at 56kgs.

A raft of walkover wins were also recorded from the Championships, hosted by the County Donegal Boxing Board.

Boy 5 72kgs: Shay McMonagle (Letterkenny) beat Caleb Laird (Convoy) 3-0
Boy 6 63kgs: Jack McElroy (Raphoe) beat Darcy Atkinson (Letterkenny) 3-0
