Dunfanaghy Boxing Club staged their home tournament in the Ozanam Community Centre in Dunfanaghy in the days before Christmas.

Dunfanaghy BC’s Irish champion Conor Durning overcame Padraig Taggart from Omagh in the headline act of the evening.

Durning defeated Mullingar puncher Jack McNamara to land the Irish Youth 2 57kgs title earlier this year and was able to flex his power on his home canvas to give a real festive cheer to the event.

Ulster champions Luke Kelly and Jack Boyle also recorded fine wins. Kelly defeated Dunree’s Jason Gilloway with Boyle recording a victory over Joe Cunningham from the St Joseph’s club in Derry.

The tournament, well matched by Eddie Harkin and his team of coaches, began with local punchers Ryan Moore, Tiernan McGinley and Kaden Coll featuring in exhibition bouts in their respective debuts in the squared circle.

In the first competitive bout of the evening Conor McFadden beat Nathan Lynch from Twin Towns before Carrys McFadden out pointed Abbey Harkin from Carrigart.

Eddie McBride beat Killian Caldwell from Carrigart and Owen McDonagh got the decision against Brian Anderson from the Twin Towns.

Mathew Ferry was victorious over Conor McLaughlin from St. John’s Bosco Club.

Owen O'Donnell was given the nod over Garvan Patton from Raphoe, Paddy Scott saw off Dunree’s Daniel Downey and Neil Bossarie defeated Carndonagh’s Jack Doherty, but there was defeat for Mick McGivern, who lost to Michael Harkin from Carrigart.

The tournament was sponsored by Maurice Boyle from Grafters Gym in Letterkenny and Seamus Sweeney from Kildarragh Construction in Philadelphia.
