A stunning run by Odhrán McBrearty ensured gold in the intermediate boys' race at the 123.ie All-Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships at Tymon Park in Tallaght.

McBrearty, from  Finn Valley Athletic Club, was representing St Columba’s College, Stranorlar,  and is now set to wear the Irish vest in the schools' cross country international. He is coached by Dermot McGranaghan.

"We are running out of words for this young Finn Valley AC man who just keeps delivering when and where it matters," Finn Valley AC posted.

McBrearty, who ceded almost a year in age to competitors, won impressively from Leo Murray and Declan O’Connell. Last month he won gold at the Ulster Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in the intermediate boys race at Mallusk.

Paraic McGettigan (61), Brian Lyons (63) and Jamie Gallagher (70) - also scored for the St Columba’s College team, who finished fifth in Tallaght.
