Shaun Doohan has booked his place in the Irish Boy 4 70kgs final.

The Dunfanaghy Boxing Club man overcame John Ward in Saturday's semi-final at the National Stadium.

The victory, via the unanimous verdict of the five judges at ringside, slots Doohan into the final, which will be boxed on Thursday.

Doohan will now fight Adria Kepes from St Pappins BC in Ballymun.

Doohan overcame John Murray of St Francis in Limerick in a quarter-final on Friday night. Then, Doohan was on the right end of a 4-1 split decision.

It was Doohan's first taste of action since a horror experience at the start of March when he was ring ready to face Murray in Castlebar. However, the night was abandoned when masked men stormed into the event.

The gang, some of whom were wearing ski masks and armed with machetes and bill hooks, burst into the venue in Castlerea.

One man was seriously injured amid violent scenes with the All-Ireland U14 competition subsequently postponed and rearranged for this week.

Raphoe Boxing Club's Taylor Parke – a two-time Irish champion – lost Saturday's Boy 4 42kgs final. Parke lost out to Mikey McDonagh, who took a unanimous decision.

On Friday night, Parke defeated Patrick Ward of St Michael's, Athy in a semi-final.

Dunfanaghy BC's Carys McFadden lost a narrow 3-2 split decision in her 43kgs semi-final against Carley O'Herron from Rochfordbridge, while Twin Towns' Molly Lafferty was stopped by Wexford puncher Sophie Lawlor in a 51kgs semi.
