Just days after winning her first national gold medal at the National Juvenile Indoors, Letterkenny AC's Erin Friel won over 100m as she opened the outdoor season at the Mary Peters Track on a night where several local athletes competed

Five days after roaring to her first national gold medal, indoors, Erin Friel began her outdoor season in splendid fashion on Thursday night.

The Letterkenny AC woman led the charge for several Donegal athletes at the Fab 5 meet, hosted by Lagan Valley AC at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast.

Friel won an Under-18 100m, going for the win in 12.77 seconds. Finn Valley AC's Amy Timoney was second in 12.92 seconds.

Last weekend, at the National Juvenile Indoors in Athlone, Friel won the Under-17 400m in 57.85 seconds and grabbed bronze over 200m, clocking 25.70 seconds.

Also on Thursday night, Fern Duffy, also of Letterkenny AC, won an Under-18 100m in 13.30 seconds from Heidi Knox City of Lisburn (14.20).

Harry McIlwaine of Letterkenny AC won an Under-16 100m. McElwaine won in 11.77 seconds, seeing off Ballymena and Antrim AC's Ethan Carr (12.11) and Kai Harris of Wellington College (12.42).

Letterkenny AC's Katie Elliott was second in the senior high jump, arching over the bar at 1.40m.

City of Lisburn AC's Charlotte Dixon, who also had a best of 1.40m, edged victory on a countback.

In an Under-18 100m Elliott was fourth in 13.38 seconds.

Joseph Aidoo from Letterkenny AC was the silver medallist in the senior 100m, going over the line in 11.55 seconds, bested only by Caolan O Cuinn from Lagan Valley AC, the home sprinter who clocked 11.46 seconds.

In the same race, LAC's Odhran Grimes was fourth in 12.33 seconds.

Finn Valley AC's Adam Breen won the Under-12 long jump. Breen leapt out to 4.04m to take the win. Rossa McAleenan of Newcastle AC was the closest, taking silver in 3.55m with Young Stars' Lorcan Murphy third thanks to a 3.53m jump.

Over 100m, Breen finished second in 14.08 seconds. Breen was beaten only by Kiki Danielli from Loughview AC, who nosed over the line in 14.04 seconds.

Also in an Under-12 100m, Breen's Finn Valley AC colleague Ceola McGlinchey was second in 15.46 seconds with Rosie McLaughlin of Mid Ulster AC winning in 15.23 seconds.
