Cara Laverty and Oisín Ó Gailín
Two Finn Valley AC records tumbled over the weekend in the United States with new Donegal marks now in the crosshairs of Cara Laverty and Oisín Ó Gailín.
Over 800m, Laverty lowered the previous club best to 2:07.87.
A scholarship student at Providence College in Rhode Island, Laverty was competing at the Providence College Friar Invitational.
Laverty, who finished second in the race – won by her college colleague Kimberley May in 2:03.46 - is inching ever closer to the 2:07.20 Donegal record clocked by Donegal Harriers athlete Siobhan McLaughlin in Boston in 1990.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational in California, Ó Gailín completed a 1500m in 3:42.72.
The Ballybofey man was fifth with Harvey Cramb of Montana State winning in 3:40.67.
Ó Gailín is moving ever closer to the 3:41.02 set by Gary Murray, then of St Malachy's in Belfast, when running in Sweden in 2005.
