Eimear McCarroll lowers her 800m best as Donegal athletes take medals at ANI Open

Eimear McCarroll dropped a significant new personal best over 800m on Saturday.

Competing at the ANI Open Meet in Belfast, the Finn Valley AC woman took gold in 2:11.65.

McCarroll will take up a scholarship opportunity at Bradley University in the United States later this year.

The Irish Indoor U20 1500m gold medal winner in January, she was fifth in the senior event over the same distance.

At the Mary Peters Track on Saturday, McCarroll shaved over five seconds from her previous best, 2:15.81, over 800m.

McCarroll staved off Ava Downey (2:12.43) for gold.

Lifford-Strabane AC's Caoimhe Gallen earned gold in the U23 hammer, reaching out to a best throw of 47.96m.

Rosses AC's Fodhla Nic Phaidin won the senior long jump, leaping to 5.22m.

Lifford-Strabane AC's Gareth Crawford threw to 66.61m to take javelin gold. Blaine Lynch of Finn Valley was the leading U20 and second overall with a launch of 50.29m and Damian Crawford from Lifford-Strabane AC was third (41.33).
