McArdle was competing at the Somerset Combined Events Championships and hit new personal bests in several of the disciplines

Lifford-Strabane AC athlete Ashleigh McArdle set a new Ulster Junior Heptathlon record at the weekend.

McArdle, competing at the Somerset Combined Events Championships, scored 4,699 points.

The new total surpasses the 4,568 points set by Niamh McCorry from Annalee in 2021.

McArdle hit new personal bests in the shot put (11.89m), javelin (36.50m) and 200m (26.89 seconds).

She also equalled her high jump best of 1.62m.

McArdle also holds the Ulster indoor pentathlon record.

Lifford-Strabane's Sharon Foley-Gallen still holds the senior record in the heptathlon while club mate Finn O'Neill holds the indoor and outdoor junior men's records.
