'Track and Field Live', the fast-paced athletics meet which has a World Athletics permit, is back in Donegal next week.

The event will take place at the Finn Valley campus on May 25. The Track and Field Live tour from Athletics Ireland blend juvenile, recreational, and high-performance-focused events into an exciting day of track and field action.

The three-hour meet begins at 11am.

The meet director is David Matthews, the double Olympian from County Kildare whose Irish 800m record of 1:44.82 stood from 1995 until June 2021 when Finn Valley AC's Mark English clocked 1:44.72 in Spain.

“This is a huge opportunity for our athletes to compete in a World Athletics permitted event and of course this event will be electronic timing,” Finn Valley AC Chairman Dermot McGranaghan said.

“The date is perfect for our young athletes going to Regional Children's Games a week later.

“This will give them an opportunity to race and compete on the same track as the Ulster Children's Games Championships in a more relaxed atmosphere.

“With mixed age groups in the older ages, it allows athletes to test themselves against and older and more experienced athlete which will create loads of a PB on the day.”

The meet is also a chance for senior athletes to test themselves with the outdoor season swinging into action.

A bespoke wooden Donegal Track and Field Live medal will be presented to all juvenile athletes who compete on the day.

The event is limited to 350 participants and the deadline for entering is midnight on May 21.
