Finn Valley AC's Amy Greene won gold at the National 5k Championships while there was team bronze for the Letterkenny AC senior men.

Greene, still a junior athlete, took gold at the Phoenix Park in excellent fashion.

The Rosses woman, in the Finn Valley singlet, took victory in 16 minutes and 43 seconds.

The 19-year-old DCU student won from Leevale's Hannah Steeds (16:48) with steeplechase specialist Roisin O'Reilly of UCD AC third in 16:54.

The National 5k Championships were held in conjunction with the Biofreeze Irish Runner 5k and over 1,700 took part.

Last December, Greene represented Ireland at the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels.

Overall victor was Raheny's Kieran Kelly, who finished in 14:30 with Clonliffe's Colm Rooney second in 14:34.

Rooney led Clonliffe to team gold on a day when Letterkenny AC delivered a fine team display to take home silver.

Letterkenny AC were pointed to the podium by Danny Mooney, the former Commonwealth Games competitor clocking 14:57 for seventh.

Mark Grennan followed in 11th, finishing in 15:18 with Mark McPaul crossing the line in 15:25 for 14th and fourth scorer was Philip McHugh, who was 23rd in 15:46.

That LAC quartet were backed up by club colleagues Ciaran Doherty who was the M45 winner in 28th, John McCallion (29th), Eoghain McGinley (33rd), John Foley (79th) and Barry Mackey (268th).
