Donegal athlete Caoimhe Gallen

Lifford-Strabane's rising star, Caoimhe Gallen, has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing her spot in the European U-18 Championships with a formidable hammer throw of 63.58 meters. This impressive feat was confirmed early yesterday morning from Spain, where Gallen competed and exceeded the qualification mark by more than two and a half meters.

The European U18 qualification standard stands at 61 meters, a challenging benchmark that Gallen surpassed with apparent ease. Her throw not only guaranteed her qualification but also marked a significant personal best. Her previous record, set just a few weeks ago, was 59.88 meters.

This also comes two months after Gallen won the shot put at the National Underage Championships with a throw of 12.73m which is her personal best.
