Declan Ferry edged out Jon-Jo Doherty in an exciting finish to the Shane Bonner Memorial Donegal 5k Championships on Friday evening in Milford.

As they rounded the turn for the finish, the pair were side-by-side, but it was Rosses AC's Ferry who held sway.

Ferry dipped below 15 minutes for the first time to win in 14:59, just ahead of Finn Valley AC's Doherty.

Temperatures hit some high marks through Friday and the mercury soared as Ferry and Doherty jostled for the lead, the Rosses man edging it at the end.

Finn Valley AC man Oisin Toye was third in 15:45.

Doherty and Toye were joined by Enda Doherty (17:17) and Darren Toland (17:57) as Finn Valley AC won the senior men's team title.

Rosses AC's Bernie Boyle was the leading woman in 18:58, from Eimear Gormley of Letterkenny AC (19:18) and Finn Valley AC's Maggie O'Hara (19:53).

Boyle, Kevea Gallagher, Leah Ward and Martina Mulhern led the charge as Rosses AC took the senior women's team crown.

In all, there were 108 participants.

The Shane Bonner Memorial Cup honours the former Finn Valley AC athlete, who sadly passed away in February 2011. The Convoy man was just 20 when he was involved in a tragic collision that claimed his young life.

Member of his family were in Milford for Friday evening's race.
