Finn Valley athlete Cara Laverty finished third at the NCAA Championships
Finn Valley athlete Cara Laverty and Providence College took third place at NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison Wisconsin.
Laverty finished in 21:10.6 for Providence. It was the best team finish for the Friars since 2013 as BYU took gold, while West Virginia took silver.
The Friar women returned to the NCAA Championship for the fourth consecutive year and 32nd time in program history. At the 2023 championship, the Friars earned a 28th-place finish and have won the title twice in the program’s history, in 1995 and 2013.
The Friars qualified automatically for the NCAA Championship after capturing the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on November 15.
This comes three weeks after Laverty helped Providence College to second place at the Big East Cross Country Championships.
The Finn Valley AC athlete placed 20th that day as Providence finished just a point behind Georgetown.
At Marven Park in Leesburg, Virginia, Laverty placed 20th over the women’s 6k distance.
The Friars were led by Alex Millard in second while Kimberley May, Shannon Flockhart and Laura Mooney all finished in the top ten with Niamh O’Mahony 18th and Laverty 20th.
