When Liverpool and Real Madrid meet in the Champions League there's always fireworks, the Reds got the better of Los Blancos on this occasion and not without a safe set of hands from the spot as IrishmanCaoimhin Kelleher, denied Madrid's superstar, Kylian Mbappe, from the penalty spot.

The Cork man who has filled in for Liverpool's first choice keeper, Alisson Becker, whilst the Brazilian is injured, has not once looked out of place once as Liverpool top the Champions League with 5 wins from 5 and are a cozy 8 points ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League.

With Liverpool having not beat Madrid sine 2009 and have been denied by Madrid in 2 finals in 2018 and 2022, they are somewhat of a bogey team for Liverpool.

Coming into the game Madrid have had a stop start season with huge stars struggling to perform, including adding one of the most exciting players in world football in Kylain Mbappe to an already star studded squad of players that took Madrid to their 15th Champions League title last season.

But a reinvigorated Liverpool squad with new manager, Arne Slot, were able to topple the Spanish giants and continue their perfect start in the Champions League in the life without Klopp era, making it 5 wins from 5.

But the big moment in the game came in the 60th minute as Liverpool's left back, Andy Robertson brought down down Lucas Vázquez inside the area leading to the penalty kick.

Stepping up from 12 yards was their big Summer recruit, Kylian Mbappe, who not having had his best start to life at Madrid, still has 8 goals in 17 matches in all competitions.

But the Irishman prevailed with a safe pair of hands that the saw the Mbappe penalty turned away from goal and 16 minutes later Liverpool made it two and cruised to a 2-0 win over their old European enemies.
