Rising Donegal racing driver Joshua Henry is in line for a €50,000 support windfall after being confirmed as one of the Sexton Trophy finalists.

The 14-year-old from Inver is one of three young hopefuls bidding to be crowned Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year.

Henry is the youngest ever nominee for the award.

His nomination came off the back of winning the ICCR Junior Mini Challenge in only his second year of competition.

He was on the podium at eight of his nine rounds and recorded five wins.

The Stables-backed Henry set the class lap record on Trac Môn, Anglesey in Wales and Mondello International Circuit.

His performances in 2023 caught the eye of Donagh Kelly and the former Irish Tarmac Rally Championship winner snapped up the exciting prospect.

On Wednesday, eight young hopefuls took part in an interview process in Dublin and Henry has made it through to the final along with Jason Smyth from County Kildare and County Wicklow's Max Hart.

Smyth raced in the Northern Ireland Formula Ford Series and was in selected rounds of the British Formula Ford Series. He was on pole 13 times and had 14 wins in the season as well as capturing the prestigious Martin Donnelly Trophy.

Hart, a five-time nominee for the award, is a HMGS Junior factory driver who races in TCR Asia, going third in that Championship. He also made his FIA World TCR debut in Macau, setting the fastest lap in his second race.

The overall winner will be announced next Wednesday, December 4, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin at the Champions of Irish Motorsport Awards ceremony.

The Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the Sexton Trophy are given to the person who has demonstrated the most potential to represent Ireland at home and internationally, both on the track and in the public eye.
