Raphoe's Miriam Magee was named as the Club Coach of the Year at the FZ Forza Ulster Badminton Club, Coaching and Volunteer Awards.

The Raphoe Badminton Club woman was presented with her award at the Raphoe Badminton Club junior training.

The club has continued to go from strength to strength in recent years with several youngsters having already graduated to represent Ireland teams.

Magee is from a family steeped in the club. She is a sister of three-time Olympian Chloe Magee and an aunt of 2024 Olympian Rachael Darragh.

A citation for her award read: “Miriam has been the driving force behind Raphoe Junior Badminton Club for 20 plus years.

“Each week she keeps the training fun but yet teaching the essential skills. She has a fantastic way with the kids and does it all as a volunteer.

“The hours that Miriam puts into the club is incredible and she has grown the junior club to over 100 kids playing each week.
